RSV Protection starts October 1st

We are so grateful to offer RSV protection to our most vulnerable patients! Beyfortus (nirsevimab) is a preventative antibody that protects babies and young children from severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections. Beyfortus should be given to babies born during or just before RSV season. The immunization season for Beyfortus starts October 1st and extends through March 31st. Eligible patients are infants 8 months and younger during RSV season and some children between 8-19 months who are high-risk for RSV complications (chronic lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and children who are severely immunocompromised). Pregnant women are also offered RSV protection late in their third trimester - as long as moms have received their RSV protection at least 2 weeks before delivery, RSV protection after birth is not necessary.
Beyfortus is a preventative antibody that provides passive immunity by giving the body pre-made RSV antibodies. This gives the body almost immediate protection, which lasts for at least five months. Medical studies have shown that Beyfortus is about 80-90% effective at preventing children from being hospitalized with RSV during the RSV season.
We are hopeful that the supply of Beyfortus will be adequate for our patients throughout the season. If you are privately insured, please check with your insurance company prior to administration to ensure coverage.
